The Promise Pertaining to Works of Righteousness

“Studying the scriptures, praying regularly, and living the gospel of Jesus Christ are works of righteousness, and the Lord has revealed this wonderful promise: ‘He who doeth the works of righteousness shall receive his reward, even peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come’ (D&C 59:23).”

Relief Society Is Unique

"There are many benevolent groups of women who do great good. There are many who have overpowering feelings of sympathy for the unfortunate, the sick, and the needy. But [the Relief Society] is unique and has been from its start."In the foundation they created, those great sisters set 'charity never faileth' (1 Corinthians 13:8; Moroni 7:46) at the center. It served them at the beginning, it served them in the great period that followed, it serves them now in a new time, and it will serve the Relief Society in all the periods ahead."

April's Book Club

Andrew McCammon, a widower, knows that he shouldn't be nervous going in for an interview with the stake president. They are friends, after all, and have worked together closely over the past few years. But something is still niggling at the back of his mind . . .

In one sentence, his stake president deals Andrew two of the biggest shocks of his life: First, he is called to be the new bishop of his ward. The second is even more alarming — he has three weeks to meet a woman, fall in love, and get engaged.

What follows is a sweet, hilarious, and thoroughly enjoyable story of one man's faith and obedience, intertwined with a series of delightfully bizarre events that guide the right woman to him. Readers of all ages will love this rollicking, exciting novel.

How Rare a Possession

“Sometimes it seems we take the scriptures too much for granted because we do not fully appreciate how rare a thing it is to possess them, and how blessed we are because we do have them. We seem to have settled so comfortably into our experiences in this world and become so accustomed to hearing the gospel taught among us that it is hard for us to imagine it could ever have been otherwise. . . .“We need to sense something of the depth of the spiritual darkness that prevailed before that day in the spring of 1820 when the Father and the Son appeared to Joseph Smith—a darkness which was foreseen by the prophet Nephi and described as ‘that awful state of blindness’ in which the gospel was withheld from man.”
Spencer W. Kimball, “How Rare a Possession—the Scriptures!” Ensign, Sept. 1976, 2

The next Parenting Group will be meeting on March 11th at 7:00. They will be meeting at Sis. K. White's home this time. Come and have fun and learn somethings on how to handle day to day parenting.

Aligning Our Thoughts and Actions

“We increase our love for our Heavenly Father and demonstrate that love by aligning our thoughts and actions with God’s word. His pure love directs and encourages us to become more pure and holy. It inspires us to walk in righteousness—not out of fear or obligation but out of an earnest desire to become even more like Him because we love Him. By doing so, we can become ‘born again . . . [and] cleansed by blood, even the blood of [the] Only Begotten; that [we] might be sanctified from all sin, and enjoy the words of eternal life in this world, and eternal life in the world to come, even immortal glory.’ ”

Doing Our Best

"The Lord doesn't expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn't (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can—that we work according to our full capacity, however great or small that may be."
Dieter F. Uchtdorf, "Two Principles for Any Economy," Ensign, Nov. 2009, 56

Choose the Better Part

I read this talk by Bonnie D. Parkin (below) this morning and was so touched by the message that I wanted to share it with everyone. I know that if we apply the teaching taught we will find more peace, more guidance, and more happiness. Please take a few minutes to read and share with others.

with Love,
Denice

Book Club

I am excited about January's Book Club, we are reading "Remembering Isacc" by Ben Behunin. Yes they are related. The author is Bishop Behunin's brother. Lucky for us, the author has accepted the invitation to come and speak to us at the book club. It will be on Jan. 26th at my home (Denice's) at 7:00pm. I loved this book, it is written well with a good story that is full of fun characters and inspiring advice for everyday life. Put it on your calendar and come and enjoy the evening. Even if you have not read the book still come.
